Review and Credits after the jump!

These chinos from Lookr come in a nice variety of subtle tones, each in both plain and plaid version. They are nicely textured, with cool details and flattering shadowing and highlighting. They come on both pants and underpants layer and two pairs of presized sculpted cuffs are provided. Unfortunately, sculpted cuffs in general (meaning not only these Lookr ones) can look good with certain shoes and can not work at all with some others. For these cases, it’s nice to have pants textured to avoid the jagged bottom bug which annoys the hell out of me. I know the designer behind Lookr did improve his textures to avoid the bug, but not enough, and I had to relog a certain amount of time to take snapshots not showing the bug (which is, one more time, entirely LL’s fault, but designers can avoid it following some simple texturing rules). This is the reason of the “3″ quality rating, for pants that would deserve 4.5 otherwise. They’re copy no transfer and sold for a very fair 135 Lindens a pair.

Quality: 3/5 - Style-Originality: 4.5/5 - Usability (different layers, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack): 4/5 - Price: 4/5 - Value for money: 4/5

Pompo Bombacci, SLAB Designs owner, released a cool tee-shirt dedicated to Torley Linden, one of the most popular of our gods ;-) It comes in two versions, both on the jacket, shirt and undershirt layer, with a complement on the underpants layer to wear tucked with low rise pants. Sculpted cuffs are provided, which isn’t very common for T-Shirts and gives it a loose look. One of the two versions provided uses watermelon colors which are the signature of Torley, and the other a silver version, both on black background. Copy, no modify, no transfer.

Kavar Cleanslate, hair designer behind the brand Exile just released a very cool hair for men, Rebel. It comes in 36 colors, covering a wide palette, including nice red and crazy colors ;) This heavy prim work (246 prims!!!) uses a lot of sculpties, allowing more creativity. Kavar used them to create a very sophisticated but yet messy look. Showing it in “Ash,” one of my favorite colors, but the “Mink” is gorgeous as well, among many others! Note that the fat pack is a total steal and you could easily be tempted if you like changing your hair color following your mood!

Shu Hax designs musical instruments that are particularly appreciated by all those performing live music sessions in SL. Not only does he build very nice instruments, he offers with each of them a HUD with incredibly realistic animations. To tell you the truth, I would never know about him if he hadn’t the excellent idea of advertising on slmen ;-) For my outfit, and because this Rebel hair made me think of a rockstar hairstyle, I decided to use a guitar for this post and contacted shu, because i had no clue where to find a good one! I’m showing one of his latest creations, which is delicately crafted, with a crisp and vivid texture. But there is more! I discovered the HUD and I was amazed! 20 guitar playing, long lasting animations are provided, following a very wide palette of styles, fitting every kind of music playing. I wish I had time to do a machinima to show you more! But you can try it on in the store where demos are available. The HUD can command 10 more animations of your choice, so 30 animations are directly reachable by a click. A “singing” animation is also provided, animating your mouth, which will ravish artists who sing while they play. Everything is very easy to set up and use, even for someone total tech-impaired like me! Note that the guitar HUD can work with any guitar, so you only have to buy one, even if you own more than one guitar! Hud is copy no trans, guitar is transferable for easy gifting!

Also wearing: cool jewelry by Faery Sola for Studio Sidhe, the Athlete Sneakers by Viola Leigh for Redgrave in the new versions she promised when I did the first review of them; they are now still moddable plus they offer a resizing script. Also each color is provided in two versions, with and without collar, allowing a better fitting when you wear them with long pants! I also chose a very good skin from Lelutka. I definitely need to make an in depth post on these latest releases from Thora Charon; they are really worth it!

Enjoy!

  5. Thanks for the review Ben, looking good in the chinos.

After the previous post here about the jaggies at the bottom of the jeans at Lookr, I fixed the bottom of the texture to display properly (the texture carried an old alpha layer on the first round of uploads, which I then resolved). All of the jeans and chinos now have the layer displayed as depicted in the Simple Texturing Rules post that you have on this site (the textures displayed showing how to avoid and fix the bug are textures of Lookr products, so I *must* have them right… the first ones are the old alpha, the second round the new alpha; all jeans chinos and future trouser products use this new alpha)

If there’s anything more that we can do to resolve this glitch (which, as far as we understand at present, is a SL thing, as I see no further problem with the textures, unless we’re missing something) then please share. :)

Looking great, keep up the good work here at SLMen!
