SKINPEDIA: Lelutka - Madrid

Ben Vanguard | SKINPEDIA | Thursday, March 19th, 2009

This is the first issue of a new series of posts dedicated to skins. I started special posts on skins one year ago, then stopped, due to this sl bug making textures reload again and again, making the photography sessions, which are already time consuming for skin posts, the most stressful experience. Things seem to have gotten better since the 1.22.10 version of the RC viewer, so here we go!

These are the rules: each skin will be shown using the same background, the same shape (mine) and the same camera angles. I’ll try to show each and every option available (not ALL the combinations available! some skin makers offer more than 100 combinations per skin tone ;-) ) like facial hair, painted hair, chest hair, makeup, etc. I’ll keep the comments to a minimum, mainly explaining what you get in a pack for what price. The rating is done without personal judgement on the style or personality of the skin, but more the technical qualities of a skin, like the lack of seams; the smoothness of the skin grain; the realism of the skin tones; the realism of some key points on men’s skins like lips and muscle shadows; the versatility of the skin (its ability to let the shape under it express itself; no it’s not a random thing: when the skin designer refers precisely and endlessly to the sl mesh during the creating process, a skin doesn’t “kill” the shape under it. I know, some big name skins look alike on each and every avatar; now you know why.). The price rating shows how a said skin is priced compared to the competition. A nice price for fat packs counts!

That’s pretty much all there is to it! I’ll try to show you as many skins as I can, as long as they get at least a medium rating for the “value for money” ratio. Just be patient, these posts take really a long time to do. I won’t tell you which are my favorites or not in these posts because I want them to be as objective as possible! If you have any interest in knowing slmen’s favorites, well, take a look at the skins we wear in regular posts ;-)

Friendly advice: never buy a skin because you find it appealing on the ad or on a blog ( ;-) ) without trying it out with your regular shape. Pick a few demos and try them a few times with your favorite hair before buying a skin!

Oh, one last thing: if you don’t have a positive result following a successful DMCA procedure about a skin shown in this new series to hand me, it’s useless to: 1) Send me patronizing IMs about me supporting content theft blah blah blah, because I’ll ignore you; 2) Ruin your little manicured fingers typing nasty anonymous comments about the same subject; they will be erased, pure and simple. If you have an official decision following a DMCA procedure against a certain skin, I will be more than happy to take down the post about it.

Enjoy!

Showing Lelutka - Madrid - Sunkissed - Face 1 - Hair.

Lelutka Madrid is a dark skin that will please men who seek a Mediterranean or Latino look. Of the 5 tones available (shown below), even the lightest one is pretty dark. Another skin in the wide Lelutka collection will suit you better if you are looking for a fair skin tone and/or skin tones which would harmonize with blond hair.
Tested with 60 commercial shapes, Madrid appears to be pretty versatile. No weird effects even with very different facial features. Due to the fact that the face doesn’t show strong lines, Madrid doesn’t look very different on different faces, but enough to tell it doesn’t erase totally the face details of your own shape!
On especially large avatars (those “on steroids”), the body features aren’t looking their best – like with a vast majority of skins!

Also available, individual pack offering the same variations, with chest hair.
Madrid Skin is set to “No mod-No trans.”
Each pack is sold for 1500 Lindens. A fat pack including all 6 facial hairs available (shown below) is sold for 6000 Lindens.

6 available different facial hair, sold separately or in a fat pack of six.

Quality of the face: 4/5 - Quality of the body: 4/5 - Usability (different options provided in each facial option pack — body hair, head hair, makeup… —, Modify perm allowing you to tweak the color…): 4/5 - Price: 3.5/5 - Value for money: 4/5

What we like: the clever position of the upper ab line, matching the torso joint, for a smoother look when your avie is moving. The short but interesting range of facial hair offered. The work on hands and feet.

  2. /me is looking forward for these series. I have a male avie to make all pretty.

If a DMCA is successful the skins should be removed from SL.

  5. Have a look at pulse skins, they have recently introduced some male skins. The “unique selling point”, apart from being beautifully painted, is that they are available in a range of ages: from young and fresh to older and wrinkly.
