Nouveau chez / New at: “Redgrave” & “Soreal”

When I discovered Soreal a month ago, Kwamey Pinion, the designer, talked to me about a sneakers project. Not long after, he dropped me pictures of the sneakers and I got thrilled! Then I tried on the first release and i was disappointed. The shape of the sneakers, if they perfectly fit women’s feet, let the ankle of most male avatars show through the shoes. The only way to avoid that was to make them so huge, even with a biiiiig avatar, It looked ridiculously oversized. Believe me, I tried them on with many shapes. I aways try to harmonize the size of my shoes with the size of my avatar. I’m 6′8″ in sl, not heavy framed, and my ankles showed through the shoes. The only way to have the shoes fitting well at a right size was to build an avatar more than 7′2″ high with body thickness lower than 30. That way the shoes had a size proportionate to the avatar’s size (in a realistic manner) and were big enough to hide the ankles completely. From having spoken about that a lot with Fallingwater Cellardoor (Shiny Things) and Eponymous Trenchmouth (JCS Shoes), I’ve known how tricky men’s shoes are to fit on the sl mesh.
So I went back to Kwamey and explained the problem to him. Like every designer dedicated to creation and quality, he welcomed my criticism and worked on a modified version he released two days ago. This is the reason why you see the “Soreal City Steps Sneakers” so late on Slmen. Showing flawless items is more important than being the first to show them, right? ;-)

Note: the former buyers of the sneakers will receive an updated version automatically with the update system.

• So! These sneakers are not only nicely sculpted (only 17 prims each!) and realistically textured, they are also innovative. They are resizeable by script, which is way easier than doing it manually. You just have to click on each of your shoes and choose to increase or decrease their size a bit, more, or a lot, until you get the perfect size looking the best on on your avie. More! When you buy a three-pack or a “All 13 colors” pack (including an exclusive color), you are provided a hud which allows you to choose the color of your shoes. Less inventory cluttering, one setting for all the colors, it’s the perfect method!

Soreal City Steps Sneakers” are sold for 395 Lindens a pair, 695 for three colors, and 2395 Lindens for the “All 13 colors” pack. In our opinion, the best bargain is the three-pack including three of our favorite colors (shown below): Red, Brown, and Camo. it’s our “best buy” advice for these shoes. They are no modify (no worries, the scripts allow you to finely tune their size), and copy no transfer, but the vendor in the shop allows you to easily purchase gifts.

What I like: the realistic look, the photosourced lovers will be amazed; some colors, really nicely designed; the scripted resizing system and color changing system.
What I wish: better prices for the packs especially for the “all 13″ one; a laced version, as i’m not a fan of velcro sneakers (ok, it’s totally a personal taste matter :-D);

Quality: 4/5 - Style-Originality: 4/5 - Usability (different layers, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack…): 5/5 - Price: 3/5 - Value for money: 4/5

• I couldn’t show good realistic photosourced sneakers without good realistic photosourced pieces of clothing. So I chose the Sporty Sweater Fighter jackets from Redgrave, by Emilia Redgrave, the queen of photosourcing. High quality is here as usual at Redgrave, and it’s maybe the only reason why I show on slmen those very expensive items. They come in two versions in the pack, plain and showing a belt under the jacket. To go along with them, two presized pairs of collar ribbons which add a little bit more realism.

They come in Red, Moss, Brown, Violet (all shown), Black and Coffee (not shown). They are modify and transfer for easy gifting, and are sold for 380 Lindens per color pack.

  1. These shoes look wonderful but I notice something very strange when wearing them, If I have them in view at all, for example I am sitting in a chair with my feel up my FPS drops from 36 down to 3.

    Doing a Ctrl-Alt-Shift-T reports lots of 1024×1024 textures, so that they look good comes at a steep price for you and everyone who looks at you… lag.

    Do shoes really need to have 1024×1024 textures? Especially as the Lindens recommend that you don’t really exceed 256×256 for lag free use.

    YMMV, maybe give it a test with your computer on the demos in store, start the statistics bar and watch your frame rate.

    They are wonderful shoes though, recommended despite the lag I see.
