Nouveau chez / New at “Shiki Designs”

‘Tis the season for things to positively bloom! New menswear shops. New menswear lines. And now, it’s my great pleasure to introduce to you Shiki, a Japanese menswear line that celebrates the season with a riot of colours alltoo rarely seen in SL men’s fashion circles.

Shiki (Japanese for ‘Four Seasons’) quietly blossomed in a Japanese sim about a fortnight back, the joint brainchild of Shinichi Mathy and his friend, Jeckie Hax. Shinichi’s fertile mind has hatched a whole range of various menswear items all thematically linked by a floral motif.

The designer’s playful sensibility shines through in every pixellated thread of his clothes - for example, his staid ‘Stratos’ suit, a sombre grey jacket with matching pants, has a cheeky floral pattern on the jacket’s lapels. Also noteworthy are the 3 pairs of handpainted pants with colours that literally pop out at you, off the screen.

My favourite piece from Shiki’s first season, however, is the ‘Bouquet Long-Sleeve Shirt’ (shown here with the sleeves slightly rolled up). To me it encapsulates all the boldness and vitality and joie de vivre of Spring. Shinichi’s hard work on the pieces may not be immediately obvious - the more discerning among us will, however, appreciate the good job he’s done to ensure minimal ‘creasing’ in the shirt centre. Also especially praiseworthy is the thoughtfulness with which Shinichi has packaged the shirt - you get 2 jacket layers (1 buttoned all the way up, the other allowing you to show a bit of chest), 2 shirt layers (ditto the jacket layers), and 1 underwear layer (absolutely crucial!).

Here, I’ve paired his Bouquet shirt with a pair of dark blue denim jeans, also from Shiki. Again, lovely details on this one - Shinichi’s woven a highly distinctive floral pattern into the front pockets and back pocket flap. Shiki’s clothes are moddable, copiable, and no transfer.

Truly, it’s time to let a hundred - no, a thousand flowers bloom!

Nouveau chez / New at “Civvies” and “Negko Design”

Perry Proudhon | - Tenue/Outfit, Costume, Dressy, Night | Saturday, April 12th, 2008

Negko DeVinna has put together a creative batch of skins called Orphee Chapter 1 - The Long Journey. The days don’t really make sense to me, but who am I to question the motives or creativity of a designer? Day 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 — that’s 10 skins for $888. I’m pretty sure it’s differences in facial hair from one day to the next. This skin I’m wearing is Day 18. Made me feel like a beatnik, which fit perfectly with Posy Trudeau’s new Vasean coat (she calls it a coat; I’d call it a jacket). The whole outfit begged to be shown in a psychedelic atmosphere. This is the brown version of the coat; it also comes in black, red and green.

I think my main complaint about the skin is the hands…they look odd to me. But I’ve only made a fleeting attempt at making a skin and I never even got to the hands. I’m sure they’re difficult as hell. And 888L for 10 skins is quite a deal. Just shove your hands in your pockets!

My only complaint about the coat, which I think is very nicely textured and has a good cut, is that the collar prevents one from wearing a necklace, since they both have the same attachment point. And yeah, I probably could have messed around with attaching either of them to a different point, but that defeats the purpose of ease of use.

Jacket: Quality: 4/5 - Style-Originality: 4/5 - Usability (different layers, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 3/5 - Price:3/5 - Value for money: 3.5/5

The outfit is finished off with Aitui’s Reborn pants in black, and the JCS’s Oslo boots in brown. Hair is “Wentz” by Truth.

Outfit of the day, Furniture of the day: Sleek Funiture, Muism, JCS…

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Automne-Hiver/Fall-Winter, Night | Saturday, April 5th, 2008

For a change, I used a prop for this post. A special prop: the re-creation by Hummer Corleone for Sleek Furniture of the “Living Tower” designed by Verner Panton in 1969. Living Tower is the epitome of furniture design in the early seventies. A total new way of sitting and lounging, in the most casual way you could imagine. The original piece is more than 78 inches wide and 78 inches high. Hummer recreated it in a slightly higher scale, but respected almost perfectly the complex form of this revolutionary 3D sofa.
It’s one of the pleasures of our favorite metaverse to be lucky to “live” with items that aren’t reachable, too expensive (RL living tower is sold for more than 12,000 USD) or not fitting our homes. More, here you can change totally your interior design every month for the price of a hamburger! All that is possible thanks to our talented builders and texturers.
You can get the Living Tower from Hummer Corleone for a mere 400 Lindens at Sleek Furniture @ SLeek (84,67,22).

I chose a silky shirt from Muism for my outfit of the day, with good details and many layers, allowing tucked and untucked wearing even with low-rise pants, thanks to the complement on the underpants layer. Like most of Muism items, this shirt is moddable. I wear it on vibrant orange pants by Emma Gilmour (talented designer and owner of Sand Shack Surf Co., here under the name of Hudsen Armidi). I love Emma’s work for men. She is one of the very few who think that men have the right to wear bright colors too! These low-rise chinos come in many colors, mostly more classic than the “Flame” I’m showing today. Sculpty pant cuffs are provided (not shown).

I chose also the great “Dublin” shoes by Eponymous Trenchmouth for JCS, my favorite hair of the moment, “Sensei” from Truth, super neat glasses from Primoptic, and uber cool retro-flowered headphones from Boon.
Enjoy the seventies flair!

My Friend,
Welcome to the Carpathians. I am anxiously expecting you. Sleep well tonight. At three tomorrow the diligence will start for Bukovina; a place on it is kept for you. At the Borgo Pass my carriage will await you and will bring you to me. I trust that your journey from London has been a happy one, and that you will enjoy your stay in my beautiful land.”
Your friend, DRACULA.

Woke up today feeling kinda gothic, and nothing better for that than the new release from House of Rfyre. The Timeless outfit comes with 13 separate pieces, everything highly detailed, giving a very realistic look. It has a pair of prim shirt cuffs which gives a very nice movement when you walk and a long, very detailed jacket. This outfit has been paired with Shiny Things’ black old boots.
