Item Review Policy

28 months after its creation, is one of the major men’s fashion websites on Second Life, with now more than 3,500 unique visitors per day average (with up to 6,000 the days when posts are published) and an average 400,000 page views/month! (look at the 2008 stats here, and 2007 stats here). SLmen is included in the “fashion planet stream“, which allows even more readers to see each post… people WILL see your items if they’re shown on!

To date, more than 600 posts have been published on slmen. Each picture is carefully done, using best practices in photography and lighting in SL, as well as the best poses on the market. The website is hosted on a high reliability server, whose provider insures the best performance even during peak traffic times. is grateful to those generous designers who pass review copies of their clothing, accessories and jewelry to us. If you choose to send us items, please be sure to put them into a folder labeled with your name and the name of your shop or business. Please include a notecard that includes the item’s name, the price, the permissions, and a SLURL for your main shop. A picture would be nice, too, if you have one. You can give us a shot of your vendor that includes all the price and permissions info, if that’s easier. This will save us a lot of time running around trying to find your item to get this information. We have a main page of SLURLs that we keep up to date so people can easily find your stuff. It takes a long time to shoot the outfits at our studio, put the photos together for the post and, when applicable, to write a short description. 3 to 8 hours of work is required before publication. We try to be objective…though at least one of us is a storyteller, we don’t want to be a showcase for fiction writers. There are other blogs for that. Here, we want to show you good and interesting items we’ve found on SL, put together in ways we think are appealing. We hope you agree at least some of the time, but if you don’t, well, maybe you’ll like tomorrow’s outfit, or the next day’s. ;)

By the way, the items don’t have to be new releases. If you have an item you designed in your early days on SL, don’t assume we’re not interested. We are! Some of the early designers on SL get us the most excited with their creativity and generosity, embodying the original spirit of Second Life.

Having said that, will we review everything given to us? No, we really can’t. Unless we’ve asked you for a specific item that we’ve seen, we can’t guarantee something will be reviewed for several reasons. The most important one is we will NOT review certain items that are no-modify. This includes pants, shorts, long-sleeved shirts and jackets, and prim attachments that don’t come in various sizes, or are not scripted to change size. It’s important to be able to modify items when photographing them in Second Life, and we think it’s important to show your items in the best possible way. So, if you have no-modify items, either make them moddable for us *and* your customers, or don’t bother passing copies to us, as they will not be reviewed. Please consider doing this for your customers…it will be appreciated, we guarantee you!

We try to stay away from the big-name designers who are over-exposed and over-blogged, preferring instead to focus on less well-known names. That doesn’t mean you won’t see the occasional big-name item on one of our avatars…sometimes it’s precisely the right item to round out an outfit. But we won’t focus on those huge names.

And lastly, there are only so many hours in a day and it would be impossible to show everything. Nor would we want to. We don’t only review items given to us by designers. A lot of what we show are things we’ve bought ourselves that we feel are worth showing to our readers.

On the sidebar, you will see a list of designers who are supporters. These are designers who partner with us by offering us their inventory as we need it, in order to make our work easier, not merely offering a single item to promote on the site. If it weren’t for designers, we would have no purpose here. We appreciate these supporters and all the help they offer. As a supporter of, besides the exposure, you benefit from direct access to the post showing your items, and from a special notice each time on of your items is featured on the website. If you are interested in becoming an supporter, please just let us know!

So, thanks in advance, designers! We look forward to working with you.
