Fashion Exploration: How men dress in Naraka (I)

Believe it or not, Second Life isn’t only about fashion, celebrity, hunts, or the latest dark drama involving some combination of any or all of the above. Some people spend a lot of time and energy on RP sims, roleplaying an intricate life wrapped in backstory.

This is the first of a series of posts featuring the unique looks of some of these roleplayers.

Tenue de Rentrée / Back to School Outfit: “Argrace”, “Elite Prim Watch”, “Sweetest Goodbye”…

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Automne-Hiver/Fall-Winter, Casual | Monday, September 8th, 2008

Morphine Janick has created a short and original collection for men under her brand “Sweetest Goodbye.”
I’m showing today her “School Boy” outfit. It comes in 8 colors (3 shown below); each color pack contains the following items, all modify and copy-no transfer: pants on the pants layer, a sweater/shirt combo on the shirt layer, sculpted pants’ cuffs, sculpted shirt’s cuffs, sculpted collar and tie combo and, last but not least, a lower sculpted attachment for the shirt and the sweater. This piece gives a loose look to the sweater, something you absolutely can’t get in sl according to the clothing layers limitations. After a few adjustments, the lower attachment looked the way it was designed to, loosened and distressed sweater and shirt, without looking ugly during the walk and standard AO poses, as so many prim clothes do.
I just wish the combo sweater/shirt were fully drawn on the jacket layer, for a more “sl classic look” for those times when you want to lower your Avatar Rendering Cost or simply to get an alternative look. I wish also a bit more work on the textures, especially on the pants which show the “jagged bottom bug” when you choose to wear them without the cuffs. This bug is so easy to avoid following this simple hint.
Though, I’m happy to see prim clothing looking good even when your avatar moves around!

Quality: 3/5 - Style-Originality: 4.5/5 - Usability (different layers for each item, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 3/5 - Price: 3/5 - Value for money: 3/5

Domch Raymaker introduced the work of Gospel Voom for “Angel & Gos Watches and Builds.” He creates incredibly detailed watches which actually work! I chose for today a simple model, “Leather Navimeter.” The leather belt is color changing by script (chat commands) and offers 6 possibilities. The watches are moddable to fit your avatar and transfer for easy gifting. Indulge yourself with a nicely crafted accessory. Just the opposite of bling. Something simply chic.

Quality: 5/5 - Style-Originality: 4/5 - Usability (different layers for each item, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 4/5 - Price: 3/5 - Value for money: 4/5

Also showing a cap and hair combo from “Argrace,” “Neo” skin from “Damiani,” and “Chucks” sneakers by “Akeyo.” Enjoy!

Tenue de Rentrée / Back to School Outfit: “A.C. Store”, “Detour”, “Dutch Touch”, “Exile”, “Shop Therapy”…

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Automne-Hiver/Fall-Winter, Casual | Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

CheerNo Destiny for “A.C. Store” has just released a new series of jeans “Jeans forever.” They offer some interesting features. As with many jeans now, cuffs are provided. I’m usually not fond of pants cuffs, but these rolled up cuffs can give an interesting and different look; plus, the sculpted cuffs are resizable by script, and synched with each other, so you have to adjust the size of only one of them and the other follows. No more tedious manual adjusting of prim cuffs which end with different sizes! This is a great improvement. “Jeans Forever” come in 6 colors (shown below), some are really original like “modern” and “green” (a very pale green). Each color comes in 4 finishes (shown below), including an original “drawing” which is definitely my favorite. They are copy-no trans, moddable (cuffs aren’t moddable but are menu driven). This one version is worth it, even at this price, but I’m more reserved about the “basic” finish: 230 lindens for a plain pair of jeans, even with sculpted cuffs, is a bit too much compared to what the competition offers for similar quality.

Quality: 4/5 - Style-Originality: 4/5 - Usability (different layers for each item, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 4/5 - Price: 2/5 - Value for money: 3/5

One more new release for men at “Dutch Touch!” Iki Icarus is spoiling us, guys! She offers new sweaters with nice tone on tone stripes. They come in white, black and grey in no-copy-transfer version, or in a pack of 5 (including the colors sold separately) in a copy-no trans version. They come in both a tucked version (undershirt layer plus complement on the underpants layer), and untucked on the jacket layer. They show the usual “Dutch Touch” quality of texturing and coloring. The white one is my favorite, off white I should say, with pure white stripes. It is easily tintable to match any piece of clothing, but it looks gorgeous as is! I’m wearing it with a sleeve filler on the pictures, for a more comfy look.

Quality: 5/5 - Style-Originality: 4/5 - Usability (different layers for each item, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 4/5 - Price: 4/5 - Value for money: 5/5

I’ve had in my inventory this series of bag from Proda Jie for “Shop Therapy” for a little while, but I haven’t had the occasion to show them to you until now. This “messenger bag” shows a very nice photosourced texture (Proda used his own bag as a source) with cool details like the iPhone. This bag comes in many colors and patterns. It is resizable by script and fits pretty easily. Note that Proda Jie has no shop in world for now, so I gave the SLX link where you can get them in the address page.
[UPDATE] Shop Therapy is back online at BigStar! Go to this page for a direct tp [Designer & Address].

Quality: 5/5 - Style-Originality: 4/5 - Usability (different layers for each item, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 4/5 - Price: 2.5/5 - Value for money: 3.5/5

Also showing the perfect “Jaywalker” sneakers from “Detour,” one more new hair from “Exile,” Relentless shown in Mink, glasses from “Ottico,” and a ring from “Dahlinks.” Enjoy!

Nouveau chez / New At: “Dutch Touch” & “Guillaume pour homme”

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Casual | Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Since her last release for men, I regularly bugged Iki Ikarus, the designer behind Dutch Touch, to ask her news about when the next men’s stuff would be coming out! I knew she was pretty busy with her new “M * A * ii * K * I” brand for women. But patience is always rewarded, and I’m glad to show you today the new series of plaid shirts, matching long sleeved tees and pants from Dutch Touch!

Iki offers these shirts (jacket layer) with her personal touch, working the fabric in a bias way. The long sleeved tees (undershirt layer plus complement on the underpants layer) are carefully tinted to match the shirts’s rich colors, and the pants (pants layer) offer a really original cut which is a good alternative to common jeans!

For each item needing it, “modify” perm is given (pants and long sleeved pieces). Short sleeved shirts aren’t “modify,” but as it’s useless in that case, we don’t need it.

Iki sells them in several packs, priced from 250 to 285 lindens, depending on the number of items inside. They all include at least a pair of pants, a tee and a shirt.
Also available is a fat pack of shirts offering 16 shirts (including the ones included in the packs) and a dark grey Tee-Shirt, for 385 lindens. I just miss the pants sold as separates, and I wish Iki offered alternative layers for her creations.

As usual, the textures are top notch and Iki’s talent at coloring makes a real difference with usual men’s creations. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I did!

Introducing one of the new bracelets from the new men’s collection by Mhaijik Guillaume for “Guillaume pour homme”. Lets listen to Mhaijik about it:

“In my RL I love ‘found objects’ , bits of glass, beads, twists of metal. I often see small things of interest when walking along a pebbled path, bending down to pick them up, pocketing for use later on in a sculpture or some creation. Creating interplay between light, glass, and metals. They resonate with my whims and moods.

For my SL Found Objects collection I have spent many hours finding and making my textures. I took my glass bottle collection from their niches, outside to be ‘shot’ in the sun. Pictures captured and squared up into pixels then uploaded. Many more hours were spent playing with small sculpty shapes and texture colours, assembling an assortment to pick and choose from as in RL I would to make my creations. Hours playing with the shapes and colours ‘in the sand’ to find harmonious happy combinations. Move this, tweak this, stretch this, place here, step back…. I chose leather, cord and soft rope to hold these small wearable sculptures, turning them into unique and imaginative bracelets. The permissions set to Mod allow them to be stretched into an ankle bracelet or even to wear as a collar type necklace. As always permission is set to Transfer to allow easy gifting.

Eternally I am open to requests and try to exemplify ideal customer service. My jewelry is designed and crafted to fit very well, though I always respond to custom sizing requests when needed. I am proud to not have a “Do not IM me” in my profile.”

“Found objects” bracelets sell for 100 to 200 lindens, following their complexity. See picture of the nine pieces available below the cut!

Also showing the new “Stomper boots” from Style Starts Here by Lissa Maertens. They look good with long and untucked pants as well, just wear the lower part!
