Fashion Exploration: How men dress in Naraka (I)

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Casual, Fashion Exploration, Punky | Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Believe it or not, Second Life isn’t only about fashion, celebrity, hunts, or the latest dark drama involving some combination of any or all of the above. Some people spend a lot of time and energy on RP sims, roleplaying an intricate life wrapped in backstory.

This is the first of a series of posts featuring the unique looks of some of these roleplayers.

Nouveau chez / New At: “Redgrave”

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Casual | Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Emilia Redgrave just released a new suit. Well, i should say a full suit pack, as it’s generous in options and layers. The “Suit Elegance” comes with a pair of black pants on the pants layer, a jacket in three versions on the jacket layer: jacket alone, jacket with shirt, jacket with shirt and vest; a vest on the jacket layer in two versions, long and short, and on the shirt layer, a dress shirt on the jacket, shirt and undeshirt layer, plus complement on the underpants layer, a sleeve puffer on the shirt layer (to wear with the jacket over it - no more ugly tight jacket’s sleeves YAY!), and a few attachments: Jacket foulard, Pocketwatch, a pair of cuffs for the jacket, a pair of cuffs for the shirt, two versions of the tie: one to wear with the vest, one to wear with the jacket. Wow!

The textures are sophisticated, especially for the shirt and vest (this vest is simply gorgeous). The black pants lack a bit of highlighting to give them some life under SL light, but at least it avoids the jagged bottom pants bug! I’m showing the cuffs on the composite, but you can choose to wear “Suit Elegance” without them. I particularly like the jacket’s cuffs. I’m less convinced with the shirt’s ones, but, as they’re optional, everyone will follow their own taste!

The watch is nice, works on the jackets or on the vest. The foulard is a cool addition. The ties, done to match both vest or jacket over a shirt is a nice idea, i just wish for a better adjustment to the clothing layer. When you pay 1200 Lindens for a suit, you can be demanding, right? ;-)

Anyway, this suit is a great addition to any wardrobe. When you wear it, the whole ensemble looks really great, and even stunning, and I’m sure it wil be a success. Every piece of the pack is moddable, as every good house does. More rare, “Suit Elegance” is no copy, transfer, so easily giftable! Ladies, think of it if you are fed up with your man wearing skull stained tees! :-)

Quality: 4/5 - Style-Originality: 4/5 - Usability (different layers for each item, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 4/5 - Price: 2/5 - Value for money: 2.5/5

To go along with this very elegant suit, i chose to show you the new “Elegance Shoes” from Redgrave as well! Sculpty work, nicely textured, very realistic and shiny, they bring to SL something of this Italian style which is sometimes a bit show off, but always irresistible! They come in 6 colors; “Black” was the best choice for this outfit. These very original shoes (speaking of SL of course!) have to be in your inventory, like the “Kalnins” shown a while ago. These shoes are moddable, which allows you to tweak their size to fit your avie. After all these scripted shoes, I’ve become lazy and I have to admit manual adjustment of shoes is a bit tedious, especially when you are not used to it, and when it comes to making them both the same size (shrink or stretch them using the “stretch” mode and the white handles, check the size in the “object” tab but just don’t type the number there, you would ruin your shoes (linked objects don’t like direct input of numbers in these boxes). To avoid any issue, better do a backup copy of your original shoes, as they are copy-no transfer! I’m sure you will enjoy them as much as i did.

Quality: 4.5/5 - Style-Originality: 4.5/5 - Usability (different layers for each item, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 3/5 - Price: 2.5/5 - Value for money: 3/5

Also showing sophisticated hair from “Little Heaven,” adding a final touch to my italian look, a nice ring from “Dahlinks” and the “Neo” skin from “Damiani.”

Nouveau chez / New at: “Aitui”

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Casual, Printemps-Eté / Spring-Summer | Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

It was about time! JesseAitui Petion (Aitui) recently released a new collection, after too long a hiatus! Lets face it. If you want original and stylish casuals in sl, if you aren’t into “post cataclysmic” or other alternative looks, you really don’t have a lot of sources.

Some of the best casuals designers with a true creativity have been sucked in by this big money-machine company and work for it now (company especially tailored to provide to avatars in need of social recognition a lot of rl “copied” casuals, done with skills, without any creativity but at high prices, under a flattering name “inspired” by the name of a famous RL luxury Prêt à porter name). Emma Gilmour, I miss your coloring talent! Dakota Buck, I miss your style! Fortunately, JesseAitui and a few others are still here and their creative juice is still ready to express in their designs!

I’m showing you today an outfit done with two items of the masterpiece of that new Aitui collection: the Tokyo range. For this spring-summer look, I’m using capris and a short jacket and shirt combo. I will show you in a few weeks a fall-winter look built with the same range.

No need to tell you the items are perfectly designed. Jesse knows his work, and being the first one selling tats with no seams is the insurance of aligned textures and precise drawing of them. The “fabrics” are so well rendered that you can actually “feel” them. He offers his items in four dark color tones, from coal to brown. The jacket comes in two versions, with and without a long shirt underneath. They are offered with a matching sculpted collar coming in two attachment point options (not shown).

Like with other items with a personality, these pieces won’t please everyone. But you can’t deny the casual elegance they bring to an avatar. They give you a look halfway between what RL Japanse designers offer in terms of creativity and style, and the comfort and easygoing feel of casual classics. If you don’t feel like going formal or official and need to show style and originality, you definitely have to explore this new range, which offers many other great pieces I will show you as soon as possible!

I’m wearing Jesse’s items with my favorite hair of the season, Rabi by Little Heaven, the most well finished flip-flops ever, obviously sculpted, from Detour, and the last collection of men’s jewelry by Mhaijik Guillaume, always masculine and precious at the same time.

Nouveau chez / New at: “Eros Fashions by Keth”

Keth Mommsen takes her time before releasing new stuff! She wants things to be their best. So it’s always a pleasure to try on new stuff from her!

This suave shirt and leather pants are worth the wait. The shirt shows a nice pattern, and it’s fully tintable, so you can modify it to suit your most crazy color needs. For those who are dye allergic, Keth offers a pre-tinted shirt pack. You will have a tucked and untucked version of the shirt (jacket and shirt layer) plus complement on the underpants layer. Pants come with two versions, one with decorated back pocket, and three pre-sized prim cuffs. They are nicely textured, and complete perfectly with sobriety the Suave Shirts! Everything is moddable and transfer. I miss a copy-no trans option, especially considering the tintable feature.

You can get a pack including a shirt in the color of your choice (and tintable), the pants and their accessories for 300 Lindens. Pants alone are sold for 150 lindens. You can choose one of the two packs of 6 pre-tinted shirts for 600 lindens, in two versions: dark and light colors, with each time a white tintable version.

Enjoy!
