Tenue de Rentrée / Back to School outfit: “Kalnins,” “Kalrau,” “Ottico,” “Robin (Sojourner) Wood”…

Perry Proudhon | - Tenue/Outfit, Automne-Hiver/Fall-Winter, Casual, Semi-Casual | Sunday, August 31st, 2008

The Gallop Shoes from Kalnins are script controlled, where you can choose from eleven colors (light blue, light brown, white (shown on main composite), blue, green, light green, and grey, as well as brown, magenta, black and brown grey (shown in second composite). By clicking the left shoe, you can also control size, choosing from small, medium or large preset sizes as well as Size- and Size+ for fine tuning the size manually, and position control. Lastly, you can control the shininess (shininess is set to ‘off’ here), as well as accessing the landmark for Kalnins and choosing whether or not you want a walking sound (I find walking sounds unnerving in SL, personally).

These shoes are unique, featuring uncommon colors (although some classic colors are missed, like dark brown, burgundy, maybe a true dark blue), a long narrow shape so unlike most SL shoes for men that it’s almost disturbing, and a sharp design that matches both dressy slacks and jeans. They are copy/no trans, a great bargain since you get all eleven colors for only 500L.

Quality: 4/5 - Style-Originality: 3.5/5 - Usability (different layers, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 5/5 - Price:4.5/5 - Value for money: 4.5/5

This grey cardigan from Kalrau is stylish and comfortable looking, with typical Kalrau texturing, a soft grey sweater over a subdued green plaid shirt. Because it only comes as a jacket layer, I miss having the choice of different layers, as it could conceivably be worn with a jacket over the top, or a coat. I wear sleeve fillers set at 6 to avoid “tight sleeve syndrome.”

Ottico Numero 74 glasses, also script controlled, allow you to control the frame color, with a choice of pink, green, black, red or wood (shown). A classic, sturdy shaped frame and slightly translucent lens, allowing you to easily see your av’s eye color, make these a good choice for glasses. I only wish I could adjust the opacity of the lenses.

Completing this outfit are jeans from Robin (Sojourner) Wood, available for a mere 50L, masterfully textured and tinted a dark grey, a ring from Mhaijik Guillaume’s found objects series, Exile’s Echo hairstyle in Greystone, and a bag sadly no longer available from Republik (sorry).

Tenue du jour / Outfit of the day: “Amodica”, “Philotic Energy”, “Simone!”…

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Automne-Hiver/Fall-Winter, Dressy, Printemps-Eté / Spring-Summer | Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

I’m introducing today the first dress shoes for men created under the brand “Simone!” by Lissa Maertens. For a first try, they are simply great. The textures are nice; the seams between the prims are pretty good. They offer a classic but original style.

They are offered in three colors (brown, black and the “Cordovan” shown below). They are copy no transfer and resizable by menu.

I have to mention their totally more-than-fair price: 200 Lindens per color. Demos are available for one Linden, so they’re worth a try!

You will find them in the main space at “Simone!” — the one where you land, not in the men’s section. (I wish this shop were easier to browse, I swear! It may be me, but it takes me forever each time I try to find something at “Simone!” - Lissa, Simone, do something!)

For my outfit, I used the many times updated “Form” suit series by Adam Soler for “Lookr.”

All the separates offer many options:

Blazers come on every possible layer: jacket, shirt, undershirt, plus complement on the underpants layer. Three colors are available.

Trousers come on pants and underpants layers, plus two pairs of pre-sized and moddable cuffs: standard and flared. Three colors available.

Shirts some in closed version, open versions in three sub-versions: to wear with or without prim collar, plus a rolled sleeve version, each on jacket, shirt, undershirt layer, plus a complement on the underpants layer. You will get in the pack as well a pair of cuffs, and two prim collars, for closed and open shirt version! 4 colors are available.

Everything is moddable and copy-no transfer. Many add-ons are available to complete “Form”: ties and alternative shirts’ cuffs… Probably one of the most versatile outfits available. I like this series a lot, as it’s really different from what you can get everywhere, and it’s a pure creation, without any RL “close inspiration” as we can see too often on the grid now.

Plus a cool hair by Aemilia Case for “Philotic Energy,” the new “Damiani” blonde skin “Angel” you will soon discover in a dedicated post (as soon as possible, I promise!) and not so new but still interesting jewelry with animated textures from “Guillaume pour Homme.”

Enjoy!

Nouveau chez / New at: “JHZ Store”

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Casual | Saturday, August 9th, 2008

HugoZion Kondor is a new designer in world. He started his business in May 2008. His first collection under the brand “JHZ Store” offers a small range of T-shirts and jeans, plus a few accessories.

T-shirts come in subdued tones, offering nice graphic patterns that will please the men for sure. I hope, though, that his next collection will offer more bright colors and more items out of the “basics” field. Everything is set modify copy no transfer. The textures are very precise and defined. I’m showing today a pair of jeans with discreet but interesting drawing on them, and an off-white tee with a cool motorbike on it.

Watch and bracelet easily achieve a masculine and contemporary look. Although his prices are not the lowest, you need to pay his shop a visit if you want to explore less known creations and support new designers!

I used the nice pendant from Studio Sidhe (already featured a few weeks ago), the shiny sculpted boots from Tesla, a beanie-hair combo from Exile and the Zero Skin from Minnu Model Skin. Enjoy!

Nouveau chez / new at: “Robin (Sojourner) Wood’s AV Store”

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Automne-Hiver/Fall-Winter, Casual, Printemps-Eté / Spring-Summer | Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

It’s no secret I adore Robin Sojourner’s stuff. Not only because they are nicely done, using the best technique for a perfect design, but also because of Robin herself, who she is and what she brings to SL’s community.
For those who might not be aware, Robin gives tons of excellent tutorials on clothes designing to the community. Her templates, freely downloadable, are used by a huge majority of designers in SL. It’s all about sharing and it’s what I wish SL was, what I thought it was when I began (and the reason why I launched Slmen, for the record). Plus, she builds some of the most poetic and delicate items (her candles and lights are magic) and a visit to her land is a very cheerful moment.
I show you today her latest creations, New Flannel Shirts and Worn Jeans.

[Click on the picture to enlarge]

Showing Worn Jeans gold thread in black with New Flannel Shirt in Buchanan Plaid.

The new flannel shirts come in many colors. Their plaid fabric shows bright colors. They are offered in the same pack in many options: tucked and untucked, each of them with roll up sleeves or not, plus untucked open shirt with roll up sleeves or not. Each of those versions is provided on the jacket layer, the untucked versions are also available on the shirt and undershirt layer. Well, I just miss a complement on the underpants layer to wear the tucked versions with low waist pants!

Seams are the best you can find, Robin uses 3D software to bake her texture and it shows. Everything is moddable and copy-no transfer. You can have your favorite color for 100 Lindens. Yes, 100 Lindens. I know it’s surprising to get so many options of such quality work at this price, and yes, you could be more used to seeing overpriced items very poorly done, sadly more and more on the grid. Fortunately Robin is here to remind us what ethics and humility are.

[Click on the picture to enlarge]

New Flannel Shirts in, left to right and top down: Clergy Plaid, Culloden Plaid, Logan Plaid, and Valentine Plaid.

What I love: the fantastic quality; some original color mixes.
What I wish: more trendy colors, maybe; more than everything, a complement on the underpants layer to wear the shorts with low waist pants!!!

Quality: 5/5 - Style-Originality: 3/5 - Usability (different layers, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 4/5 - Price: 5/5 - Value for money: 6/5!!!

Worn Jeans. They come in 9 colors (shown below), each of them showing over seamed thread in white, gold, tan, and another color harmonized to the fabric’s color. The used fabric is very realistic, and it shows nice ripped torn area on the knee and behind the left thigh. Shadowing and highlighting, keys of realistic looking items, are just great. Those jeans are old but clean, it’s important to tell you that, as the filthy trend is very prevalent on the grid these days :-D
Important note is, those jeans are high waist, and they follow the basic SL template. There was a time when each and every pair of pants on SL were like that; now it’s the opposite, and it’s good to have a reliable source of higher waist pants to wear with shirt layer items without an underpants complement. Without these complements, you show your belly, which is not really appreciated by men :-)

[Click on the picture to enlarge]

Worn Jeans White thread , left to right and top down: Black, Blue, Brown, Charcoal, FadeBlue, Burgundy, Gray,LightBlue, and Hunter.

Each pair of jeans is sold for a very low 50 Lindens. You can get a pack of 4 versions of the same colors with every thread color available for 150 Lindens, I’m not sure of the interest of this pack. The full color pack of nine pants, to choose between white, gold or tan thread, for 300 Lindens, is your best choice. 9 high quality items for this price is just a steal! For this price you get two layers, pants and underpants, the last one useful when you want to wear them tucked in boots for example, without messing with the sliders of the pants layer. Everything is obviously moddable, and copy-no-transfer.

What I love: the fantastic quality; some colors; the nice realistic texture, staying soft.
What I wish: I should say “Nothing,” but I’m not like that! I wish some more subdued colors (Burgundy and Hunter are a bit too flashy IMHO; you can over tint them a bit though, but it’s not the same); a low waist version! Please, please Robin, consider it!

Quality: 5/5 - Style-Originality: 3.5/5 - Usability (different layers, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 4/5 - Price: 5/5 - Value for money: 6/5!!!

Robin gives away templates for clothing, which help many designers within Second Life. Not only does she have a great sense of community, but she offers nicely done pieces of clothing and romantic items (irresistible candles and items for the home!) at incredibly low prices.

“Moose Sweaters” come in a very wide variety of colors, a choice of layers (shirt or jacket), a prim collar, and additional detail on the skirt layer. You can get your favorite colors for a low 100 Lindens each, a total steal for such quality! Everything is moddable and copyable, but no transfer.

New shirts and price cut on the last “Pale Heretic” suit

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Automne-Hiver/Fall-Winter, Dressy, Formal, Night, Semi-Casual | Friday, October 5th, 2007

If, like me, you would like to have more contrasted ties on the shirts coming with “Fatigued suit,” the last Pale Heretic’s creation (original post here), you will be happy! Pale Janus offers 5 new shirts with ties (shown below). You can get them for free in the shop; they will match perfectly the complement on the underpants layer already in the suit’s box. They form a gorgeous addition to the first ones.

So you now have 12 tops with the new Fatigued Suit: 10 shirts with tie, one without a tie, and one vest (all of them shown below). Add to that the 5 pants and the jacket, and you will have a whole wardrobe for the price of one suit!

Price, let’s talk about it. Pale wants more people to be able to access his design, so he decided to cut the price of “Fatigued suit.” You can have it now for 795 Lindens! :-D
Well, the few negative points I had in my previous post about it are now out of date! More than ever, “Fatigued Suit” is a real must have!
