With Halloween fever heating up in Second Life, I thought I’d get in on the act (and make a reappearance on SL Men) with an unearthly outfit that’s haunting in more than one sense of the word. I mean - with everyone else dressed as a vampire/mummy/werewolf/witch - surely you want to go to that SL Halloween party in something with a bit more oomph and pizzazz?

June Dion’s ‘Lich King’ outfit was released some time back, but I think it largely went under the radar of most of the fashion blogs at that point. (Then again, it *would* be hard to find another occasion to don this phantasmagoric number apart from Halloween or if you were visiting an RPG-themed sim.)

‘Lich King’ makes fascinating material for the amateur anthropologist - the horned hat with its twin horns tapering upward like a crescent moon (read: ancient pagan symbol) - seems vaguely Egyptian ; it’s almost like an anti-mitre (mitres being those high hats favoured by high-ranking Catholic clergy -  the Catholic ones don’t have horns, of course). The horns are repeated as a motif throughout the costume - most notably on the shoulders, where they flare magnificently outward, but also at the collar and all around the edge of the cape like a bony frill or ruff, and finally, encircling the waist. The bold colours and geometric shapes of the outfit’s utterly opulent textures recall African tribal prints, but the level of detail also makes you think of feel like you’re wearing a Medieval English tapestry or Middle Eastern magic carpet, in a weirdly wonderful way! It was this latter consideration that made me opt for a pair of ornate Turkish slippers by way of footwear.

To top off a fantastic outfit, ‘Lich King’ comes with not one, but three (!) floating skulls that ominously orbit around you like a protective charm or guardian familiar. The vendor board at Barerose doesn’t show the floating skulls - a strange omission, because they add so much to the outfit - but that made the subsequent surprise all the more lovely. June’s also thoughtfully included a pair of eyes shot through with dancing flames, a crown, and an iron mask (great for Mardi Gras and masque-type events; crown and mask not depicted here). (And for SL Men’s female readership - as with many Barerose outfits, June has the female equivalent available too - look for ‘Lich Queen’ under the ‘Gothic’ section).

I’ve chosen a very pale skin to better offset the hyperchromatism of the outfit - Excess’ ‘Vario’ skin from the Androgyne range seemed quite perfect for this purpose. Oh - and for that little extra enchantment, I slipped on one of Ms. Guilaume’s mhajik-al rings.

Nouveau chez / New at: Devol & Negko Design

Today new tattoos from negko Design and Devol!

Negko DeVinna (for Negko Design) always makes of his creations something special. His skins and tattoos bring to the customer more than a product, but also a story, a tale. His inspiration for tattoos is made of Polynesian classics, Chinese patterns and his special touch of ultra-modernity. Those tattoos show lighter zones, as if partly erased. Why? What for? You can write your own story about these tattoos. That very fact is the sign of true art!

I won’t forget to mention that negko tattoos are seamless. You can count on the fingers of one hand the designers able to do that…

The tattoos come in many versions. You can mix and match them with each other. They come in as many layers as possible. Price range is from 49 Lindens to 249 Lindens, following the amount of layers in the pack (from simple gloves to full body tattoos). They are no modify, copy and no transfer.

Kaori Masala is a japanese designer. Under her brand Devol, she offers japanese style tattoos. Here you are in the kingdom of realism, with pieces looking like the most classic Japanese tattoos. You are discovering today her last creation, Fish and Sea, showing a fish with all its movement figured. 230 Lindens, copy, modify, no transfer.

Silk is from The Silk Raven (Solange Cerveau). I don’t give Solange credit for her huge work on it, since I haven’t shown even a tenth of what you get in the pack! Short and long version of the loin cloth, also sheer version of it, bracers, chest danglies, circlets, armbands… etc. A mere 21 pieces in each color pack! Everything is copy and modify. You can choose from many colors, your favorites for 550 Lindens each!

My model for today is “Aidan,” shape by Vasean Talamasca for Flesh Peddlers. 200 Lindens for a modify skin is a very generous offer. If you don’t feel able to build your own shape, use a good one like this one, and please don’t spend a fortune on it!

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Automne-Hiver/Fall-Winter, Casual, Semi-Casual | Monday, June 2nd, 2008

I’ve been online so little these past months, I wasn’t able to show you all that I wanted! Truly sorry for that…

So, a few months late, I’m showing you the last creation for men by Solange Cerveau for “Solange.” These “Winter wool” packs offer a sweater and pants. Three color packs are available: Brown, Black and red, Charcoal and black. In each of them, you will get a tucked and untucked version of the sweater (on the shirt and underpants layer for the tucked one, on the jacket layer for the untucked one), plus three pre-sized collars, and a pair of wool slacks.

Solange’s textures are among the finest; I know she spends dozens and dozens of hours working on them, and work always pays! I chose to show you the red sweater, my favorite, with the charcoal pants from another color pack, to let you better see the details of the texture. The black one is as good, but like every black item in sl, it shows less details.

Everything is copy-no transfer and, of course, modify. 250 Lindens per color, 500 for the three of them. Note that you can get complementary sweaters, sold without pants, for 150 Lindens per color (blue, green and gray are available).

Let me introduce today new items from a brand new designer in world, Rodney Trenkins for “Republik.” This guy seems very promising. His first items are really interesting, especially his accessories in my humble opinion. I can’t wait to see more stuff from him! Today, take a look at these “Fight club” sunglasses and this nicely textured sculpted bag with a cool form. Both are color changeable by menu. I won’t forget to mention the prices are pretty nice! So refreshing after having seen a bunch of newcomers with delusional prices for not so savvy stuff! If you haven’t already, you definitely need to take a look at this Republik shop!

I’m showing the last creation from Kavar Cleanslate for EXILE, “Jonah,” shown today in “autumn” but obviously available in one of the 30 nice new textures offered.

To finish the outfit, I chose the nice “Spencer” from Shiny Things, one of the first sculpty shoes available in sl, and a ring from Guillaume pour Homme. Enjoy!

Seasonal Costumes series: Sultan - The Silk Raven (Solange Cerveau)

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Costume | Sunday, October 21st, 2007

Another costume, by Solange Cerveau this time, for The Silk Raven.

Solange is one of these generous designers who gives you a lot in a single package!
For each color pack of this impressive “Sultan” outfit, you will get: a turban, 2 necklaces, 2 pairs of pants, sculpted leg prim attachments, 2 kinds of belt, pre-sized in two settings, both obviously modifiable, a vest, a jacket, a shirt.

To avoid her customer being lost in all these elements, Solange conveniently put letters in the beginning of the name of each main piece, so you know what goes with what. You can of course choose to mix and match following your own taste!

All the items are copy, modify and no transfer. “Sultan” comes in two series of colors, “gold “and “silver,” each in black, white, green, blue, purple and red. I show you today my favorites.

The textures are detailed, and the entire outfit offers a high level of quality. You can have all the components in your favorite color for 500 Lindens.

To go along with the outfit, Solange offers curled slippers and more classic loafers. They come in the same 12 colors, in two sizes to fit every avatar and are priced 250 Lindens each (Copy only). I chose to present the curled slippers because I found them really fun!

You can add to the outfit a cloak for 300 Lindens (not shown). It comes in the same 12 colors. Well, I thought it was a shame to hide the detail of “sultan” under, but you can be interested in it.

Note that there is a fat pack including an outfit, slippers, loafers and a cloak for 975 Lindens for a color, which means 25% off.

You can find all the costumes on Slmen following this link.

Nouveau chez / New release at: “Solange!” by Solange Cerveau

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit | Monday, September 10th, 2007

Solange Cerveau designs silks, gorgeous ones. She designs women’s clothes, gorgeous ones. Nothing for men until now. Such is life…

But miraculously, she decided a while ago to design men’s clothing as well!

For a first try, it’s a pure success. Introducing today the “Solange! Monsieur” outfit, in six colors, each of them offering many combinations. See what you have in the pack: a pair of corduroy pants; 2 jackets (named “coats” here) which seem pretty warm, so perfect for this fall, in the color of the pack, dark and light; a tucked buttoned shirt, coming with a complement on the underpants layer to wear with other low rise pants, or with another pair of corduroy pants including the lower part of the shirt, for less hassle or the possibility of wearing your favorite pair of briefs :-). And it’s not over! Also on the jacket layer are two untucked versions of the shirt, opened — one showing your torso, the other, more modest, with a white tanktop under. The shirts are textured in a beautiful paisley drawing.

Let’s count: pants with tucked shirt, the same plus the dark jacket, the same plus the light jacket, the two versions of the button down shirt make 5 different combinations! Not to mention the possibility of using the tucked shirt with the pants of your choice thanks to the underpants complement, and the possibility of wearing the very good jackets with a pair of jeans and another shirt or tee. WOW! I love a designer who knows what generosity is.

Obviously, because she is customer conscious, Solange makes all the items modify. This way, you can perfectly fit any shoes adjusting your pants, and, like i did, tweak the shirt (sleeve looseness) and the jacket (sleeve length) to avoid the ugly tight jacket sleeve syndrome.

Each outfit containing 8 pieces is sold for 350 lindens. You can have the fat pack for the reduced price of 1680 Lindens.
Perms are Copy, Modify, No transfer.

Now I’m waiting for the next release! :-D
