Nouveau chez / New At: “Dutch Touch” & “Guillaume pour homme”

Ben Vanguard | - Tenue/Outfit, Casual | Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Since her last release for men, I regularly bugged Iki Ikarus, the designer behind Dutch Touch, to ask her news about when the next men’s stuff would be coming out! I knew she was pretty busy with her new “M * A * ii * K * I” brand for women. But patience is always rewarded, and I’m glad to show you today the new series of plaid shirts, matching long sleeved tees and pants from Dutch Touch!

Iki offers these shirts (jacket layer) with her personal touch, working the fabric in a bias way. The long sleeved tees (undershirt layer plus complement on the underpants layer) are carefully tinted to match the shirts’s rich colors, and the pants (pants layer) offer a really original cut which is a good alternative to common jeans!

For each item needing it, “modify” perm is given (pants and long sleeved pieces). Short sleeved shirts aren’t “modify,” but as it’s useless in that case, we don’t need it.

Iki sells them in several packs, priced from 250 to 285 lindens, depending on the number of items inside. They all include at least a pair of pants, a tee and a shirt.
Also available is a fat pack of shirts offering 16 shirts (including the ones included in the packs) and a dark grey Tee-Shirt, for 385 lindens. I just miss the pants sold as separates, and I wish Iki offered alternative layers for her creations.

As usual, the textures are top notch and Iki’s talent at coloring makes a real difference with usual men’s creations. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I did!

Quality: 4.5/5 - Style-Originality: 4/5 - Usability (different layers for each item, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 2.5/5 - Price: 3.5/5 - Value for money: 4/5

Introducing one of the new bracelets from the new men’s collection by Mhaijik Guillaume for “Guillaume pour homme”. Lets listen to Mhaijik about it:

“In my RL I love ‘found objects’ , bits of glass, beads, twists of metal. I often see small things of interest when walking along a pebbled path, bending down to pick them up, pocketing for use later on in a sculpture or some creation. Creating interplay between light, glass, and metals. They resonate with my whims and moods.

For my SL Found Objects collection I have spent many hours finding and making my textures. I took my glass bottle collection from their niches, outside to be ‘shot’ in the sun. Pictures captured and squared up into pixels then uploaded. Many more hours were spent playing with small sculpty shapes and texture colours, assembling an assortment to pick and choose from as in RL I would to make my creations. Hours playing with the shapes and colours ‘in the sand’ to find harmonious happy combinations. Move this, tweak this, stretch this, place here, step back…. I chose leather, cord and soft rope to hold these small wearable sculptures, turning them into unique and imaginative bracelets. The permissions set to Mod allow them to be stretched into an ankle bracelet or even to wear as a collar type necklace. As always permission is set to Transfer to allow easy gifting.

Eternally I am open to requests and try to exemplify ideal customer service. My jewelry is designed and crafted to fit very well, though I always respond to custom sizing requests when needed. I am proud to not have a “Do not IM me” in my profile.”

“Found objects” bracelets sell for 100 to 200 lindens, following their complexity. See picture of the nine pieces available below the cut!

Quality: 4.5/5 - Style-Originality: 5/5 - Usability (different layers for each item, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 4/5 - Price: 4/5 - Value for money: 5/5

Also showing the new “Stomper boots” from Style Starts Here by Lissa Maertens. They look good with long and untucked pants as well, just wear the lower part!

Nouveau Chez / New at: “MUWU” and “Style Starts Here”

Perry Proudhon | Automne-Hiver/Fall-Winter, Casual, Punky | Friday, August 15th, 2008

MUWU’s new “Taste of Harajuku” set comes in five colors: red, black, purple, blue and pink. The pants come in versions with and without zips. I chose the version with zips to show here. The main fabric of the pants is nice, a punk plaid, but the zippers are blurry. The main idea gets across, and the effect is good, but I tend to like clearer textures.

The jacket, on both shirt and jacket layers, features sculpty attachments: fur cuffs (’bracers’) and sculpty sleeves which seem a bit redundant (not shown here). I have to say, the fur texture is beautiful, very soft in appearance, almost tactile. The shading on the jacket is nice, especially around the top of the front, where the fabric is visibly ’stretched.’ It almost has a lycra look and feel to it, which is a little different than the wool appearance of the back of the jacket.

Quality: 4/5 - Style-Originality: 4/5 - Usability (different layers, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 5/5 - Price:4/5 - Value for money: 5/5

These new stomper engineer boots from Style Starts Here are nicely hand drawn, with good detail and texture. They’re not comically large like some stompers, and are able to be easily resized by script (I love this option, and am glad people are using it more).

Quality: 4/5 - Style-Originality: 3/5 - Usability (different layers, modify perms, amount of outfits put together with a single pack, sizes for attachments…): 5/5 - Price:3.5/5 - Value for money: 4/5

Rounding off this outfit, the Bon75 hair from boon in jet black.

Enjoy!

Tenue du jour / Outfit of the Day: Akeyo”, “Detour”, “Moderno”, “Mustang Trading Post”,”Studio Sidhe”, & “Style Starts Here”,

I put together this outfit around a few accessories I’ve wanted to show you for a little while, and some newer ones.

Artoo Magneto, the designer behind Akeyo, is a sculpty master! His caps are nicely done and offer a wide choice of patterns. I’m showing one of the last patterns, “Buzz.” Caps are Copy no mod, but they are resizable by menu. A menu offers the possibility to flip the cap with a single click.

Faery Sola (Studio Sidhe) doesnt release a lot of men’s stuff. It’s always a pleasure to get new items from her; she works hard to offer perfectly built and carefully hand textured items. The new “Quartz Crystal Pendants,” showing nice glowing crystals inserted in stones attached to a leather thong, are perfect to reveal the new age in you ;-) They come in 5 colors for the stone, 120 Lindens each or 300 Lindens for the whole set! They are easily moddable to fit your avatar and offered in two pre-sized versions.

Mustang Trading Post (run by Jon Ree) is an original store with a western flair, offering some pieces of furniture and accessories: jewelry, spurs and belt buckles, among others. I’m showing today a cool leather bracelet adorned with turquoise and silver rings. It’s no copy, modify to fit and sells for 250 Lindens.

Released a few month ago, but for the first time on slmen (such a shame, I know! :-)), these sneakers by Detour (by Detour Sideways) are just perfect. Their original cut and pattern is a great alternative to the tons of “converse like” sneakers we can see everywhere on the grid (don’t get me wrong, I love them, but hey, we need more diversity!). These shoes come in 5 colors (350 Lindens each) or in a fat pack of 6 colors (with an exclusive one) for 1000 Lindens. Fat pack isn’t the right expression, as you will get only a pair of shoes (in three presized versions) with an “on touch” color changer: a simple click on each shoe switches from one color to another. Nice way to avoid overfilled inventories!

Completing the outfit with a perfectly finished T-Shirt combo from Moderno (Starley Thereian), a nice pair of cargos from Style Starts Here (Simone Stern), each sold for 100 Lindens (it’s a challenge nowadays to find such high quality stuff at these prices…).

Tenue du jour / Outfit of the day, with a new Renegade skin.

An outfit with a burgundy tone today, with nice striped shirt from “Style Starts Here,” coming in every possible layer and sold for 100 Lindens, following the more-than-fair pricing policy of the brand; a good pair of sneakers from FNKY! in the new range of “Racer” colors; and a nice hair from “Philotic Energy,” just updated with 96 new textures!

Also, I’m wearing a skin from Kaejo DaSilva for Renegade. This skin isn’t photorealistic and is a cool alternative to the dominant trend. Showing it in the “Tan” tone, with this particularly nice facial hair version called “Patch.”

Accessories are from “Guillaume pour Homme” and “Shiny Things.”

Enjoy!

Tenue du jour / Outfit of the Day

Perry Proudhon | - Tenue/Outfit, Casual, Printemps-Eté / Spring-Summer | Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

I continue to be impressed by Simone Stern’s amazingly low-priced collection at Style Starts Here. I frequently turn to something from SSH when I can’t think of what to wear. I know that the styles will mesh, and that the quality will be consistently good. This black pin-stripe shirt is nicely done, with clear textures and well-matched seams — not easy to do with stripes, believe me.

I wanted a contrasting color for my pants, so I chose the white jeans from Indigo, another color of the multi-pack of jeans that I showed recently in black. Not sure what color belt I’m wearing as it’s under the shirt. ;)

Have I told you before this hair is available from Boon…FOR FREE? If I haven’t, I’m telling you now, and if I have, it bears repeating! The hair comes in 12 colors, two sizes each, for…did I mention the price? Free! ;) Go grab it…you might be surprised at how often you’ll wear it. It’s unisex, so bring your boyfriend or girlfriend to grab a set as well.

Mhaijik Guillaume has come out with a cool set of matching jewelry pieces. The Spring Cord Ring Bluesz sells for 50L, the bracelet for 175L, with the set including bracelet, necklace and ring going for 275L. I thought they would be a bigger pain to adjust than they were, but it was quite easy.

Hoorenbeek now makes the all-stars in a low-top version (thank you). I’ve shown every color here except green, for sake of even numbers and grids of photos. Yes, sometimes we at slmen.com are forced to be pragmatic. Imagine the camo without a pattern, and you pretty much have the green…

Nouveau chez / New at “Muwu” & “Tesla”

Namida Akami, the designer behind the MUWU brand, has designed stuff for girls for a little while, and started men’s fashions a few weeks ago. This “English boy” jacket, sweater and shirt combo is one of the very first items she created, and it’s a complete success! Textures are nicely done, and you can really feel the different fabrics: soft wool, rougher fabric for the jacket, perfectly ironed shirt. For 90 Lindens, you will get a combo. I like having separates to mix and match things, but I have to admit combo clothing is maybe easier for men in a rush! Three layers are provided — jacket, underpants and jacket layer. You can use the shirt layer under the jacket layer and set the sleeve looseness to a higher level to give the jacket a more natural look, as this looseness is not adjustable on the jacket layer. English boy is now available in red, green, black and blue as well. Im sure you will soon see more MUWU stuff on slmen :-)

Today I’m wearing new shoes from Tesla by Tesla Miles, “Oxford Shoes.” These simple dress shoes for men can fit many outfits, and they come in a wide choice of dark tones, adding to their versatility. You can get a pair for 349 lindens, and a fat pack of six for 1999 Lindens (Black, Brown, Magenta, Olive, Snow and Slate, all shown below.)

Tenue du jour / Outfit of the Day

Perry Proudhon | - Tenue/Outfit, Automne-Hiver/Fall-Winter, Casual | Monday, March 17th, 2008

One of those days where you rummage through the hamper, looking for something salvageable. Rummaging through my inventory, I found these nice black chinos from Style Starts Here. Crush-resistant, thankfully. Topped off the outfit with a striped pullover in blue, also from SSH.

Slipped into the black dockers from Hoorenbeek, grabbed a coiled nail ring from the dresser top, didn’t have time to comb my hair before running out the door.
